We are at the mouth of the Blyde Canyon, which cuts through the Drakensburg Mountain Range, one of the seven major mountain ranges in Africa. The Blyde Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world and was formed by rivers cutting deep into the escarpment. The scenery of the 25,000 hectares Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve is unsurpassed, its vegetation varied with a rich selection of birdlife which includes a breeding colony of the rare bald ibis.
Sub-tropical jungle, some of southern Africa's scariest rapids, and hidden hanging valleys' are home to mountain reedbuck, dassies, impala, kudu, blue wildebeest, waterbuck and zebra.
